I had to carve out the belly .1 oz. I used 2 bolts to get up to weight. Side note, my boss needs to get new flooring.
The axles tip on and it pulls slightly to the eight so it doesn’t bounce. The 4th wheel only ever so slightly touches. Weight is back and up and it’s somewhat aerodynamic. I think.we stand a good shot.

Got one going this year too. er I mean my boy does.
usually we do a pointy doorstop. my son designed a rather attractive teardrop coupe this year.

I like the mint chip paint job.

looks good. i ended up using a couple bolts with the heads cut off for weight.

she called it the sad ladybug paint job

You should place that weight like an MR engine - rearward but in front of the back axle.

behind the axle, the weight is still going down hill a little longer than the axle is, just a bit more push, a bit “more legal”

yes, my ten year old totally had a blowtorch and some lead in his stash.

We’re using last year’s wheels and axles, put the axles in my drill and polished with fine sandpaper, same to true the wheels.

But wouldn’t that have it swerving all over the track?

you try to toe in one front tire, so it rides the rail. long as it doesn’t wheelie, we’ll be ok.

Are you worried about the track being uneven? I know rail riders are faster but if you hit a snag your car will go for a little flight.

yea i put the nails in the drill and used steel wool

speed track is only one event at our rally, the fastest “dad Built” cars fail miserably at not hitting cones, stopping on target, tracking straight. etc. it’s a great equalizer. at least we’re usually in contention for “most paint” and you can see dads getting upset and fuming when their researched and engineered cars fail.

how’d you bend the axles? precision or violence.

wait, it’s a whole thing? Man it’s been a long time since cubscouts for me.

yeah, 5 0r six events. If you make it crazy fast, it won’t be good at anything else. It’ll probably handle like a grizzly bear on rollerskates. fun, but not exactly precise.

The junior event “beaver buggy” (giggle) is fun too, full-on dukes of hazzard stuff, with the 5 to 7 year olds.

violent precision. i put it in my vice which is mounted on my workbench. I spaced it to how wide the wheel is and gave it a couple taps with a large hammer.
